Activities & Partners

Mars Yard

Our Mars Yard will be a recreation of the former Mars Lab at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney. Brought to you by the team from UNSW, participants will get to program Mars Rovers to navigate across our custom designed Mars landscape in search for evidence of life. This activation will be facilitated by our resident NASA Scientist, Dr Adrian Brown, Deputy Program Scientist for the Mars 2020 Rover Mission.

For a taste of what you can expect, check out this video.

Plants vs Mars

The team at NSW Department of Education STEM Industry School Partnerships Program will challenge you to create smart habitats to improve liveability in space for future Mars based communities. Inspired by NASA and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media’s Lab’s Space Exploration Initiative, you will learn to think like engineers in order to design Smart STEM focussed products for remote deployment and automation of devices on Mars. Areas of exploration will include product design, working with sensors and data, plus prototyping user interfaces for the remote management of resources.

Drone Racing

Start your engines and get your adrenaline pumping by racing the Australian Army Drone Racing Team’s drones around their specially designed course. Learn and develop the skills involved with designing, building and maintaining drones whilst also getting your hands on a quality drone to race!

Fly Army Virtual Reality Helicopter Simulators

The Australian Army will be demonstrating its Fly Army Virtual Reality Helicopter Simulators with movement activated seats at COSPAR-K. They will be providing participants an opportunity to “fly” the simulators for themselves and get a taste of what it is like to fly a real helicopter. The Fly Army advocates will be available to discuss Aviation roles including Engineers, Pilots, Aircraft Trades, Ground Crew Roles and UAS (Drone) Operators.
